Welcome to Portland!
The Williamette
River and wooded hills frame scenic downtown Portland.
In a land of sprawling metropolises
glued together with massive concrete roadways, in trots Portland, Oregon.
Unlike many American cities, Portland has resisted the urban sprawl
urge. This makes it more of a community than a city, a place that combines
modern features with old-town charm.
And it's a beautiful community, framed by the meeting of the Willamette
and Columbia rivers backed up against tree-lined mountains. City planners
have thoughtfully incorporated nature's surroundings into the urban
setting, replacing a freeway with a waterside park, creating tree-lined
streets, restoring classic brick buildings and minimizing motorized
traffic downtown with an efficient public transportation system.
Portland is L.A. laid-back with Midwestern values. This gives the city
a wonderful character, one that is evident in her quaint pubs, her quirky
clubs and her ultra-friendly people. Add to this the fact that Portland
is the home of the home brew, and it makes the place a prefect destination
for thirsty PubClubbers.
